Cara Cowser will be heading to the state meet in Austin after her third-place time of 15.08 proved to be .03 seconds better than anyone in the southeast region.

Cowser will be running in the “wild card” slot that is awarded to the best third-place time out of all four regional meets.

The “wild card” was added to fill the University of Texas' nine-lane track, while allowing as much competition as possible.

Cowser had to wait, because the southeast region that features the Houston and College Station areas had rain and was forced to wait to run their meet.

The meet was finally ran on Monday.

Cowser and her coaches had to wait and hope all of that the sophomore's time would hold up in third place and get her a state qualification.

The state meet will be Friday, May 10, to Saturday, May 11.
