A new program called DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) offers help for children, ages 5 to 12, whose parents are going though separation or divorce.
The new faith-based program will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at NCTC Student Center, 928 Cherry St. DivorceCare for Adults meets the same time and date but at Harmony House, 1309 Brazos Street.
Both adult and children programs explore the same topics each week, but each presentation is geared to the appropriate age levels. Both are sponsored by Faith Center A/G and led by church members who have undergone intesive training. They include Ken and Sandy Weimer, Elrod, Kelli Mellema, and Bill and Judy Landers.
Ken and Sandy Weimer are two of six people who are beginning DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K). The weekly sessions offer help for children, ages 5 to 12, whose parents are going though separation or divorce. After beginning DivorceCare for Adults last spring, Ken Weimer realized children needed a safe environment with other children experiencing the same pain. Weimer's feels that divorce's effects upon children tend to be minimized.
