North Central Texas and North Texas aren't necessarily the healthiest regions in the country, but based on recent data, Young County has the highest percentage of people with diabetes in the area. According to findthedata.org, a website that provides vital statistics over a variety of different categories including health, Young County beat out all surrounding counties including Stephens, Palo Pinto, Jack, Wise and Throckmorton, with an overall percentage of 11.6 percent, or 3,802 of its residents having some form of the disease. Young also ranked high in the categories of obesity and inactivity, factoring in at 29.6 percent and 28.2 percent respectively. Diabetes educator Kathy Pennycuff is the program coordinator for the Graham Regional Medical Center DSME (Diabetes Self Management Education).
