Leaders of various organizations made their way into the doors of the American Legion Building for the 2013 Graham Area United Way kickoff luncheon.
The scent of baked chicken and green beans filled the air as GAUW executive director and secretary Susie Cerecedez handed agency representatives GAUW packets. Bethel Day Care, the Salvation Army of Graham, the Young County Humane Society and Graham Backpack Buddies set up tri-folds displaying information about their respective organizations. Guests smiled and happily chattered while they grabbed a plate, filled it with food and made their way to a table to eat.
After plates were emptied and bellies were filled, GAUW President Lynn Day welcomed everyone to the luncheon. Graham Area Crisis Center Director Don Oldfield led the crowd in invocation. GAUW 2013 campaign chairperson Joe Schweighofer explained United Way's purpose.
"It takes a village to build a community," he said. "One of the great things I like about this organization is that the money stays here. Any money donated to Graham Area United Way stays here."
