Errick Ortiz, 20, of Graham, was arrested for theft of a stolen firearm, evading arrest and marijuana possession Sunday morning on Highway 16 North. Graham Police Department Officer Chris Post responded to the Young County Sheriff's Office advisory of a subject reporting stolen firearms.
The subject, who lives in the 1100 block of Indiana Street, reported that he left his Heritage Manufacturing Inc. Rough Rider .45 caliber revolver and a .243 caliber break-over single shot rifle in the front seat of his 2003 Chevrolet 1500 in the parking lot of the apartments in the 1100 block of Indiana Street on Nov. 16.
The subject noticed the two firearms were missing the next morning and gave police Ortiz's name, stating Ortiz knew the firearms were inside of his vehicle. Shortly afterwards, Ortiz was seen leaving Graham on Highway 16 North.
At the same time, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Officer Brent Isom reported that he was heading out on Highway 16 North and advised that Ortiz's vehicle had passed him and was traveling back toward Graham on Highway 16 North.
At that time, Post arrived in the area. Isom pulled Ortiz over on Highway 16 North, and as Post neared the location, he observed Isom's emergency lights were on as he approached the suspect's vehicle on foot. Post then witnessed Ortiz flee from Isom, causing the GPD officer to give chase.
