Plans are underway for the creation of a new visitor’s center in Graham.

During the Thursday morning meeting of the Graham City Council, in what Mayor Barry White called a “great first step” for the experimental combination of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Graham Chamber, the city voted to proceed with a preliminary estimate for what is needed to create a one-stop center for city organizations, tourists and businesses, both local and visiting.

“What we’re doing is placing a preliminary value to see what we need there,” Public Works Administrator David Casteel said of the city’s plans to renovate the American Legion Building. “We decided to proceed with hiring an architect to determine where we need to be on renovations.”

Plans for the building include a multi-media room and a meeting room, and city officials across the board are excited about the prospect of having a place where people and entities of all kinds can meet and experience a central representation of what Graham has to offer.
