The GRMC will hold its election for a brand new, seven-seat board of directors for its taxing district on May 10. Due to several factors, including the recent uprising of the taxing district opposition group Young County Citizens for Responsible Taxation, many members of the community have applied for board membership.

There are currently 16 people on the list, with the deadline to apply ending Friday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. As of press time Friday morning, persons who have so far applied to run in the election include: Wyatt Pettus; Lee Boyd; Donald Behr, M.D.; Derrell Dodson; Larry Kovar; Lynn Nees; John Lucas, M.D.; Wayne Widner; S. James Buckmaster; Johnny Tidwell; Jeff P. Gilbertson, M.D.; Kent Pettus; Mark House; Terry Bishop; Louis Dayne Miller and Carroll Parker.

Within this pool, four members are on the current hospital board: Larry Kovar; Derrell Dodson; Lee Boyd and Lynn Nees.

According to the Texas Health and Safety Code, section 286.042, the number of directors (candidates) receiving the highest number of votes, in this case four, will serve terms of two years with no term limits. The next three directors will serve a term of one year with no term limits.
