A former Young County sheriff's deputy was arrested last Thursday on a sexual assault charge and is currently out on bond.
According to a Young County arrest report, Christopher Jerome Wacaster, 45, turned himself in last week after Texas Ranger Ryan Clendennen contacted him by telephone.
“He turned himself in, and I placed him in Young County Jail,” Clendennen said, adding that he could not say more on the matter since the case is currently under investigation.
Details in the arrest report state that Clendennen read Wacaster his legal Miranda warning at 3:21 p.m. Thursday, June 5. Wacaster stated that he understood his rights, but refused to speak with Ranger Clendennen without his lawyer present.
Wacaster was a Young County sheriff's deputy for at least three years, but the report stated that he was not employed at the time of his arrest.
Bond was set at $10,000 by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace James Ross, and included restrictions requiring Wacaster to report regularly to the Young County Adult Probation Office.
The Graham Leader will update the story as details emerge.
