Water has been shut off at homes and businesses along Fourth Street from Elm to Plum Streets, including the Graham Interbank and the First Baptist Church, while crews repair a leaking water main.

Utility Superintendent Randall Dawson said he hopes to have water service returned to the structures by noon or 1 p.m.

The problem line runs along Echo Street. The main line burst causing a racket-ball-sized hole in the side of the line near the intersection of Echo and Fourth Streets, said Dawson. He estimated that 25,000 to 35,000 gallons of water were lost before crews were able to shut off the problem line.
