Obituary Policy
It is the policy of The Graham Leader to publish complimentary obituaries edited for uniform content and style. Complimentary obituaries may contain information about the deceased as provided above.

Obituaries containing additional and/or extraneous information required by either the attending mortuary or the family of the deceased will be published only as a paid advertisement at The Graham Leader's open retail display rate. Paid obituaries will be boxed, set in the same typeface as courtesy obituaries and published in close proximity to courtesy obituaries. Refusal of payment will result in the publication of courtesy obituary information only. Extraneous information shall include, but shall not be limited to:
• All text for which editing by the newspaper is refused.
• Bible verses and/or religious references.
• Names of fiance, “significant other” and/or “life partner.”
• Spouse(s) of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
• Names of nieces, nephews, cousins and other distant relatives and their spouse(s).
• Names of pets.
• Hobbies and/or pastimes.
• Private matters of significance only to the family.
• Public accolades and/or recognition for personal achievement.
• Profanity and/or profane references.
• Pallbearers, honorary pallbearers.
• Other non-traditional information.

Obituaries republished with additional information inadvertently omitted by the mortuary or the family for the initial publication must be paid at the newspaper's open retail display rate.

The Graham Leader shall reserve the right to publish news stories about the death of widely recognized civic or community figures, containing as much information as determined by the editor to be significant. Such news articles may be in addition to the deceased’s obituary announcement, which will be published in accordance with the Graham Newspapers, Inc., obituary policy.

The Graham Leader shall further reserve the right to edit obituaries, complimentary or paid, for proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
