The Young County grand jury issued 45 indictments last month on charges ranging from aggravated sexual assault of a child to driving while intoxicated.
Three men were indicted for sexual assault of a child, including two from Olney. In one case, a suspect was indicted on four charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
April Bishop and John Renteria were indicted on one count of unlawful use of a criminal instrument. The two were arrested in September for allegedly using a tool to remove mail from a public mailbox. Young County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Tim Bay said Bishop and Renteria had made a tool that slipped into the public blue mailboxes. At the end of the tool, a sticky substance was placed to grab the mail.
Bay said the duo were looking for cash or checks that could be whitewashed out and cashed. When a sheriff’s deputy stopped Bishop and Renteria, he recovered mail in their vehicle, and open mail was found scattered down the highway.
The mail that was located was allegedly stolen from a mailbox in Bryson.
Drug crimes continue to be a problem in Young County. The grand jury indicted 12 suspects on 18 drug-related charges, ranging from possession with intent to distribute steroids to possession of less than a gram of methamphetamine.
The grand jury also handed down five indictments for either robbery, theft or burglary and handed down four indictments for assault.
Two suspects were indicted for driving while intoxicated, one for the third time or more and one for DWI with a child passenger.
