Early voting for the Graham Regional Medical Center hospital district will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays Wednesday, May 15, through Tuesday, May 28, in the basement of the courthouse, room B1.

Election day will be June 1, and voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in the Agape Room.

The proposed hospital district will include those voters who live in Young County and within Graham ISD.

The wording on the ballot of which voters will choose “For” or “Against” will read, “The creation of the Graham Hospital District and the levy of annual property taxes for hospital purposes at a rate not to exceed 75 cents on each $100 valuation of all taxable property in the district.”

Though voters will vote on a maximum rate of 75 cents, hospital officials have said that it is believed the hospital district board, which will be created if the proposition passes, will likely set the tax rate at 37.5 cents per $100 of valuation.

Once the rate is set, it will be subject to the rollback rule which states that a taxing entity cannot raise taxes by such an amount that generates more than an 8 percent increase over the funds generated in the previous year. In doing so, voters may call for a rollback election to approve or disapprove of the higher rate.
