Law enforcement hit a number of locations Thursday afternoon in a coordinated effort to shut down what officials allege is, basically, an illegal lottery.

At Possum Kingdom Lake, Palo Pinto County sheriff's deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety officers entered Longhorn Smokes ‘N More around 2:20 p.m. Thursday.

Customers were turned away by officers who said the business was closed. About four hours later, deputies carried a number of electronic items from the business and loaded them into a DPS box trailer.

Similar actions occurred at different businesses in Mineral Wells. No officials involved in the bust were available for comment Monday afternoon.

There are currently five sweepstakes cafes operating in Graham.

“We believe these operations are illegal and we are working with other agencies to investigate and if possible prosecute,” said Graham Police Chief Tony Widner.
