The City of Graham has had a failure of a component in the chlorine dioxide generator at the water plant. Chlorine dioxide is introduced in the water prior to treatment to improve smell and taste.

Water is then treated with other chemicals to make it safe to consume. A new chlorine dioxide generator component has been ordered and is in transit. It should be installed on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Until that time, local water, while safe to drink, may have an unfamiliar and less pleasing taste and odor. Tests are conducted daily for water safety and quality. No failing tests have been recorded or are anticipated.

With the chlorine dioxide generator operational early next week, tastes and odors should be back to normal by next Thursday or Friday.
