On a perfect night for baseball in Graham, the Varsity Steers baseball team came up short after a late inning rally from Iowa Park.
So far this season, the Steers have endured a couple of heartbreaking losses in the final innings. After both teams allowed early runs, the pitchers settled in for three quick innings of scoreless baseball and found themselves going into the fifth tied 1-1.
The fifth inning proved costly for the Steers after they allowed four runs to give Iowa Park a hefty 5-1 lead. Graham couldn’t match Iowa Park in the bottom of the fifth, and after allowing an additional run in the top of the sixth the Steers looked to the bottom of the sixth for a comeback.
With rally hats on, the Steers added a run in the sixth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but left the tying run at the plate to fall six to four. Both pitchers played extremely well, but Iowa Park’s Jared Biddy outlasted the Steers’ Bryce Reeves, delivering a complete game both on the mound and at the plate. Despite the loss, Coach McGee remained confident in Reeves’ abilities.
