After a quick turnaround from the home win against Burkburnett last Tuesday night, the Graham Steers Varsity baseball team faced another familiar foe, the Vernon Lions, this past Friday night.

Behind a command performance from pitcher Mikey Freeze, the Steers brought home the 8-7 victory after ten long innings. Leading the way for Graham, Freeze finished the night with two RBI’s, two hits, 12 First pitch strikes and no strikeouts.

The game started off slow for the Steers, who didn’t cross the plate until the bottom of the third inning, and the Lions saw success early in the second inning scoring three runs. After the Steers trimmed the lead to one, the Lions scored two more to pull ahead 5-2.

The saying goes: “It’s not how you start, but how you finish,” and the Steers proved a great example of that adage Friday night. After trailing early, they mounted a fierce comeback and went up 6-5 after five innings, and when the Lions evened the score at six by the top of the sixth.
