The Graham Masonic Lodge is seeking auction items for their 10th annual public consignment auction which provides local students with scholarships. The old ag barn in Graham will once again be filled at the beginning of March with the familiar sound of visitors all looking for the chance to secure items that could be anything from bullets to buggys. Past consignment sales by the Masons have included items from the city of Graham, Young County, Olney ISD, Archer City ISD, Newcastle ISD and various local individuals and businesses. Last year the Masonic Lodge of Young county awarded nine scholarships that totaled $11,500 for students graduating from Graham, Olney and Newcastle public schools. In total, the lodge made $115,000 from 446 buyers during the 2016 consignment event. History Eleven years ago, the organization struggled to earn $500 for just one scholarship for a Graham High School student through their fundraising efforts. Weldon Floyd, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Graham, said the group had a discussion about revamping their scholarship program to make an impact for area high school graduates pursuing further education. That discussion was brought about after the group had to pass the hat at a meeting in order to fund that $500 scholarship. For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
