The hole will soon become a pond as a part of the new city park being constructed.
“That was land that the city already owned,” said David Casteel, director of public works. “The contractor and Corps of Engineers were doing cleanup. We traded them soil for them digging it (the hole) for us for free, so it was a good deal for us. So we got some of our work done for the new park for free that way.”
The pond isn't quite finished yet, and will be a bit bigger than what is now seen at the current location.
