Graham City Council raised its water rates to fund the upcoming water treatment and distribution improvement project.

According to the ordinance passed by the council Thursday to raise the rates, wholesale customers will be charged a rate of $121.92 for the first 2,000 gallon minimum charge based on a 5/8-inch meter size on up to $6,096.07 for a 6-inch meter.

Wholesale customers include Fort Belknap Water Supply Corp., City of Newcastle, City of Bryson and Graham East Water Supply. What those wholesale customers, or suppliers will in turn charge each of their metered customers has not yet been determined.

Fort Belknap Water Supply Corp’s previous rate chart shows the charge for the first 1,000 gallons for a 5/8-inch meter at $36.00.

Newcastle water customers are currently paying $40 for the first 4,000 gallons and Graham East Water Supply Corp customers are paying $27 for the first 2,000 gallons.

The rate for Graham customers with a 5/8-inch meter will be $18 for the first 2,000 gallons. Fields said the impact on the average Graham customer will be $4.48 per month.

For each 1,000 gallons above the minimum, the rate will be $3.42.
