Local veterans will be recognized during a Veterans Day tribute Monday at First Baptist Church.

Graham Independent School District students in kindergarten through 12th grade will participate in the event, slated to take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church, 620 Fourth St. The tribute will include a mix of patriotic music and student written essays honoring local veterans.

The American Volunteer Reserve will present the colors, and kindergarten students from Pioneer Elementary School will sing patriotic songs to veterans at the event. Kindergarten students have been practicing their patriotic songs in music class over the past several weeks, and have had two rehearsals as a large group. Crestview Elementary students have written essays about why veterans are special to them, and Woodland Elementary students wrote essays on “What a Vet Means to Me.” Graham Junior High School students have chosen individual veterans to honor by writing biographies them and why that veteran is a local hero. The GHS choir will sing patriotic songs, having been practicing through the choir class and so far have had one formal rehearsal. The GHS student council will emcee the annual event, which is usually presented by Pioneer Elementary, but since the program is a tribute to local veterans in Graham, all area schools have decided to participate.
