The City of Graham is preparing to improve several streets in the city under a competitive bid of a $97,990.12 contract awarded last December to the Zack Burkett Company of Graham.
The improvement will consist of the application of a tack coat of sticky asphalt to bind the new surface to the old surface, followed quickly by a 1 ½ inch to 2 inch thick overlay of hot mix asphalt concrete as a new surface layer.
City crews have prepared these roads for the overlays by sealing cracks in recent months with an injection of hot rubberized asphalt. This contractor has completed similar work on Third Street and Calaveras Street in recent years.
The improvements are scheduled as follows: Fourth Street from Oak Street to Plum Street starting early Thursday morning, Feb. 27. Blocks will be closed as crews work, and traffic will be detoured to other parallel streets.
Following completion of the work on Fourth Street, crews will move to Fawn Trail from FM 61 to the top of the hill; and Pine Tree Road from SH 16 to Normandy Drive.
The contractor expects completion of the hot mix overlay work on Friday, February 28. The work will be rescheduled if it rains or turns colder than forecast.
For the safety of the work crews, the public is asked to avoid these areas while work is underway, watch for workers and construction traffic and abide to traffic signing and flagmen.
