7:12 p.m. – Young County early voting totals have been released tonight and show a majority of city of Graham residents voting in favor of the local option election to allow the sale of wine and beer for off-premise consumption in Graham. These are only the totals of those who voted early; counting continues for ballots from the five polling sites that were open today.

There were 1,108 votes cast against and 1,409 in favor of the measure, which would allow grocery stores and convenience stores to sell beer and wine that must be consumed elsewhere.

There are no contested local races in today’s election. Ballot counting began once the polls closed at 7 p.m., and is ongoing at the courthouse tonight.

We will bring you updates tonight as information becomes available.

Almost 54 percent of the 11,756 Young County registered voters cast ballots ahead of yesterday’s election, either at early voting polling sites, or by mail. That is a record number of both registered voters and early votes.
