Today’s the last chance for folks in North Texas to prep in relatively warm weather before a major arctic front arrives tonight, bringing blisteringly cold temperatures for the next two days. As the front arrives this evening, temperatures will fall into the 20s and 30s by tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office. Temperatures will continue to fall as the coldest air arrives in North and Central Texas Thursday night into Friday morning. That will bring lows in the teens and 20s Thursday night. Wind chills will be in the teens and 20s Wednesday and Thursday nights. At this time, no precipitation is expected with these storms, which means little to no chance of snow, sleet or unusually dangerous road conditions. Residents throughout North Texas are reminded to prepare ahead of the storm. Protect pipes, faucets and sensitive plants from the cold. Prepare warm places for outdoor pets and look out for neighbors who might not have ample heating. If you must be outside during the cold, wear layers of loose, light, warm clothing rather than one heavy layer. Wear a hat, because you can lose half your body heat from the head. Warmer temperatures will return by the weekend, the NWS forecasts, as southerly breezes return. “Afternoon highs will not be too far off normal values for this time of the year,” the forecast stated. “Enough moisture will exist across eastern North Texas for low chances of showers and thunderstorms Saturday night and Sunday, as an upper disturbance moves across the area. Rainfall will be light.”
