Ed was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Lubbock to Robert Earl and Sophia Grace (Dickinson) Karper Sr. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Geology. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as 1st Lt. of a Subchaser during in WW II. Ed married Nell Carroll May 14, 1964, in Santa Fe, NM. He was the owner of Karper Oil and Gas and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of West Texas Oil and Gas Association, Independent Producers Association of America, North Texas Oil and Gas Association and a former member of Graham Independent School Board.
He was preceded in death by former wife, Frances Ford Karper; and brother, Robert Earl Karper Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Karper of Graham; daughter, Kristin Karper of Graham; sons, Ed Karper Jr., Philip Karper and wife Becky and Gene Karper and wife Alison, all of Graham; grandchildren, Kallie Karper Pitcock, Kate Karper, Kent Karper, Dustin Karper and Ryan Karper; and great-grandchild, Karper Louis Pitcock.
