Thank you voters! Thank you Honda!

The Graham Drive-In was one of 122 drive-in theaters across the country that recently participated in a nation-wide online contest to win a new digital projector. Honda was sponsoring this contest that would award a new digital projector to the five drive-in theatres that received the most votes. (Honda ended up giving away seven projectors, and Christie added two more to make a total of 9 projectors that were given away.)

Voting began on Aug. 9 and closed on Sept. 9. Drive-in theater locations all across the country were holding their breath to see if they had garnered enough votes to be a winner in the contest. We know many of you that visited the voting site saw the competition we were up against. Many drive-in theaters had two and three screens, and many were located in markets much larger than Graham.

On Friday, Sept. 13, Honda officials came to Graham to announce that we had won a new digital projector. It was a great testament to what can happen when we stand together and believ!! We know that everyone was voting everyday on their computers, their laptops, and their cell phones. Families reached out to family members in other towns, friends asked their friends on Facebook to vote, and it all added up to the little town that could and did!

The Graham Drive-In has been an important historical fixture in our community since 1948. And Graham residents and customers outside this area did not want to lose this important icon. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Graham residents (and a huge thank you to our massive number of out of town friends and patrons) for your commitment to saving a piece of history!

There are so many people, businesses and groups to thank. We cannot personally thank everyone, but we wanted to remember a few that were instrumental in helping to insure a win for the Graham Drive-In.

First we want to thank our managers, Jay and Erin Hawkins of Scene Marketing.

Their tremendous creative abilities led to the creation of the zombie video that was effective in separating us from the competition. Jay and Erin also put in hundreds of hours emailing, encouraging Facebook friends and customers to vote daily. It was a monumental effort, to say the least, and a testament to their persistence and creative genius.

We also would like to thank: Chip Tompkins for photos and video, Jerry Jones, Tony Hawkins, Brandon Cornelius, Graham Fire Department, The Blue Crew, Young County Car Club, Terry Bishop, all businesses who displayed signs and posted on their Facebook pages, everyone who participated in the making of the zombie video, Cherry Rushin and The Graham Leader, Jennifer Conway and the Chamber of Commerce, Michael Reynolds, Ashley and Bethany Cornelius, Ben Davis and Emma Stroup, Hannah Muncy, Greg Edwards, Tyler Brazee, Felicia Hawkins, Mathew and Ventura Monreal.

Special thank you to Carol and Cloys Trout and Jay and Becky Gober for their commitment to keep the Graham Drive-In open for generations to come!
