The Lady Blues volleyball team made quick work of the Hirschi Huskies Friday night in the district opener. In three straight sets the Blues won 25-2; 25-9; 25-12. The win was a chance for the Blues to get valuable court time throughout the bench, according to coach Marci Faulk. “Elizabeth Routon and Aubrey Beggs got some back row time,” Faulk said. “That will give them valuable experience as underclassmen. We rested Jasmine [Sims] and I liked how my other hitters stepped up. That’s important at the start of district and heading into the playoffs. You want them to gain some confidence and get those extra reps.” Senior Emily Davis led the charge with 12 kills, six digs and five aces. Emma Ranger had had 11 kills, and Chloe Menard had nine. Setter Marleigh Sanders was responsible for 34 assists and eight digs. Skylar Morris added three kills, while Baylee Loomis offered six kills and two aces. Junior libero Nicole King had 13 digs and Delaney Sullivent had an uncharacteristic night with six kills despite being an almost permanent back row player. The No. 16 state ranked Blues season really picks up Friday as they prepare to face Burkburnett at home. The Lady Bulldogs are the only other ranked team in the district at No. 25, and the two teams will face each other twice starting with Friday’s contest and concluding with a Friday, Oct. 14 game in Burkburnett. “They’re big,” Faulk said of Burkburnett. “They’ve got 26 wins this season which is more than we have. I don’t think they’ve played the schedule that we have. That’s why I set up our schedule the way we did. They have good middles and outsides with size. They graduated their libero last year but we lost five players to graduation.” The Blues beat Burkburnett three times in four games last season, including in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
