Speed bumps and rough starts are common during the course of a season. Unfortunately there’s no worse time to have either occur than in district play. Both the Bryson Cowgirls and Cowboys found this out the hard way Friday night. A slow first half doomed the ladies in blue and gold against Graford in their district tilt. Meanwhile, the Cowboys couldn’t keep up with No. 9 Jackrabbits. Bryson was scheduled to be at home Tuesday night, taking on Throckmorton. Friday night, Bryson will take on Newcastle on the road. Graford 41, Bryson 34 Following a forfeit victory to even their district record at 1-1, the Bryson Cowgirls had momentum. Bryson’s offensive struggles continued before halftime as the Cowgirls were outscored 12-8, leaving them with a 20-11 deficit in the locker room. While the Cowgirls did manage to outscore Graford 10-8 in the third quarter, it did little to halt the momentum from the first half. Both teams scored 13 points each in the fourth quarter to end the game. Hayle Leatherwood led the Cowgirls offensively on the evening with 13 points followed by Hope Guttery with 7 points. Maddie Moore added 6 points with Maryum Keyser scoring 5 points. Breanna Denton put in 3, with Kyla Jones putting in 2 points.
