The Graham Steers were represented by six athletes in the 63rd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State Football Team.
Quarterback Ben Davis was named the second team quarterback after his illustrious senior season in which he accounted for 56 touchdowns and 4,680 yards of offense.
Bryce Reeves was also named to the second team after reeling in 81 catches for 1,404 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns in the Steers 14-1 season.
Dillon Gonzales, Spur Hearne and Mikey Freeze were each named third team All-State.
Gonzales rushed for 1,606 yards and 28 touchdowns, while also catching 61 passes for 908 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.
Hearne led the team in solo tackles with 85, and also had a team-leading 107 combined tackles.
He also finished the season with four fumble recoveries and a blocked field goal.
Mikey Freeze had five interceptions and two forced fumbles in 2013.
The junior safety also finished the season with 92 tackles, coming in second on the team behind Hearne.
The sixth and final Steer to crack the TSWA All-State Team is nose tackle Husky Melendez, who received an honorable mention nod.
Melendez had 68 tackles and a sack, and his contribution was undeniable.
The senior defensive lineman’s strength and power up the middle put pressure on every offense the Steers faced throughout the historic season.
Only Freeze will return to the Steers, as Davis, Reeves, Gonzales, Hearne and Melendez are all graduating seniors. But this group has been a major contributor to a team that lifted Graham football to two of its greatest seasons.
