Graham’s senior boys basketball players went out in style Friday night with an 82-54 blowout victory over Vernon. The win moved the Steers to 18-7 overall as they finished 5-3 in district play.
A closely played first quarter saw Graham hold an 11-8 lead at the 3:29 mark in the first quarter. Just under two minutes later, the advantage had grown to 15-8. Graham went into the second quarter leading 18-8 over the Lions.
Any hopes of a Lions comeback were quickly dashed before halftime. Graham opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run to lead 30-10 at the 4:51 mark. The Steers’ offense kept rolling into the break as the Lions were facing a 40-21 halftime deficit.
Vernon tried to mount a small comeback in the third, but the Lions could get no closer than 16 points at 40-24 just 40 seconds into the second half. Graham finished the third quarter on an impressive 24-8 run, giving them a 64-32 lead after three quarters.
