The Bexar (bayr) County Sheriff's Office says a tip led to the site on Saturday and a crowd watching birds fight at a residence.
Some people ran from the scene but authorities nabbed the homeowner and seven other people. Names of the suspects and further details on charges were not immediately available.
Sheriff's office spokesman Paul Berry says dozens of birds and cockfighting equipment were confiscated. At least two animals were dead at the scene in southern Bexar County. The surviving roosters have been placed with animal control officials.
Texas laws make it illegal to possess birds meant for cockfighting and to attend a cockfight.
