GALVESTON, Texas—A Southeast Texas public school flooded by Hurricane Ike in 2008 will reopen after more than $5 million in repairs.

Trustees of the Galveston Independent School District voted Wednesday night to reopen Burnet (ber-NET') Elementary School for the term starting in August.

The Galveston County Daily News ( http://bit.ly/1dyHCkP) reports repair work on the school should be completed by the end of February.

Trustees last summer voted to complete the final work, citing a possibility that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would not fund repairs if more time elapsed. The district has paid 10 percent of the costs, with the rest covered by FEMA recovery grants.

Ike made landfall at Galveston in September 2008.
