The Amarillo Globe-News ( http://bit.ly/MpMDXG) reports that the president of the guards' union at Pantex denies the plant contractor's allegation and is taking the case to the National Labor Relations Board, a federal agency that investigates labor claims.
The contractor, B&W Pantex, filed an unfair labor practice charge with the board last week after the guards called in sick Jan. 21, allegedly to avoid a drill scheduled for that night. In the filing the contractor contends the union knew about the sickout and failed to stop it.
The contractor in a statement said the plant, 17 miles northeast of Amarillo, remained safe.
