EL PASO, Texas—A jury is deliberating the fate of an alleged high-level gang member accused of participating in the 2010 slaying of a U.S. consulate employee.

Prosecutor Brian Skaret reminded jurors Friday of the evidence against Arturo Gallegos Castrellon, who's accused of ordering the killing of Leslie Ann Enriquez Catton, a U.S. consulate worker in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez. Her husband and the husband of another consulate employee were also killed.

He's also charged with drug trafficking and money laundering. Castrellon was extradited from Mexico in 2012.

Defense attorney Randolph Ortega argued the prosecution didn't prove his client is the gang member identified as "Benny" and that a statement Gallegos made to the FBI was not videotaped and that it was done under fear of retaliation by Mexican authorities.
