"The Shield" actor Michael Jace on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to charges of killing his wife last month, according to TMZ.

The 51-year-old actor allegedly shot and killed 40-year-old wife April on May 19 in their Los Angeles home. Jace was the one who called 911 and reportedly told authorities he just shot his wife.

His lawyers must love that.

Authorities have not publicly discussed motive, though TMZ has reported that the couple was having money problems.

The actor, who has appeared mostly in supporting roles on television the past two decades, is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. His next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 1.

Jace faces a minimum sentence of 50 years and a maximum life sentence in state prison.

The couple's two children -- both under 10 -- are staying with relatives. Both reportedly were home when the shooting occurred.

Jace is best known for playing the sexually conflicted Christian cop Julien Lowe on the FX drama "The Shield" between 2002 and 2008. He also had small roles in the movies "Forrest Gump," "Boogie Nights" and "Planet of the Apes," among others.
