Runners take off during the Run for the Children event in 2018, which was the last year it was on the downtown square after being canceled due to stormy weather in 2019. To help practice and maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 15th Annual Run for the Children has gone virtual. Participants will be able to run or walk anywhere, even on a treadmill, during the weekend of May 16.

“It is imperative that those participating comply with CDC guidelines to maintain social, or, physical, distancing during this time,” said run organizer Dori Cawley.

The race serves to raise money and support Virginia’s House and its satellite office, Dr. Goodall’s House, in Breckenridge. Virginia House’s mission is to support abused, neglected and traumatized children with programs in prevention, intervention, education and advocacy. The organization serves children in Young, Stephens and Throckmorton counties.
