The city of Graham announced Tuesday morning that the Graham Municipal Pool will be closed until July 6 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

The measure comes after a rising number of COVID-19 cases in Young County over the past week.

“Out of an abundance of caution we are going to temporarily close the pool this week. At this time no guards have tested positive, but we did have a few that attended prom,” the Facebook post read. “We want to take a little time to make sure that our guards stay Covid free and the ones that need to get tested will do so and be quarantined. Thank you so much for understanding. This is a very hard decision to make, but we want to keep the public’s safety our main priority.”

At this time no lifeguards at the pool have tested positive for COVID-19, but were potentially exposed at prom where Local Health Authority, Dr. Pat Martin, confirmed two individuals that attended on Sunday night received positive test results Monday.

On Monday night, Martin stated in a Facebook post that there were seven confirmed positive COVID-19 tests that day, six positives are Young County residents.

Dr. Martin said that a record 68 tests were performed Monday, and last week the county saw 21 new COVID-19 cases.
