New COVID-19 case, positive antibody test in Young County
The county had not seen a case of COVID-19 since April 28, but on Sunday, Young County Local Health Authority Dr. Pat Martin, confirmed Young County’s fifth case, followed by another confirmed postive antibody test Monday. The total number of cases confirmed in the county is now at five, and including outside the county confirmations is at eight. The announced case are the only active cases in Young County.
It had been over a month since Young County had a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus, but on May 31, Dr. Martin confirmed that a nasal swab came back positive for the virus.
“We have had another positive nasal swab for COVID-19 in Graham,” Martin wrote on Facebook. “A positive nasal swab indicates an acute and active infection. This test was performed on May 26 and resulted today. The patient has been quarantined since May 21 (self quarantined when they felt sick). Contact tracing is ongoing. Please remain vigilant. Graham has done very well so far. Continue to use common sense with your activities and realize that this virus is still a threat.”
On Monday, June 1, Dr. Martin posted again, saying there was another postive case, but later corrected it to say it was a positive COVID-19 antibody test that is awaiting nasal swab results.
“There is a correction. Our case mentioned earlier today is a positive antibody test with IGM," Marting wrote on Facebook. "A nasal swab has been performed but has not resulted. This will not be considered a new case unless the nasal swab is positive. We had one nasal swab confirmed COVID19 over the weekend and that is the only new case.”
Before May 31, the county saw their last confirmed case of COVID-19 on April 28 and was a patient who resided outside Young County. The last case that was from a county resident was on April 15.
Graham Regional Medical Center, Graham Medical Associates and several healthcare providers across the county are continuing to test as Texas has begun to reopen restaurants, bars, retail, gyms and churches. As of Sunday, May 31, there were 29 pending tests across Young County.
