Graford School Board sets new tax rate
On Thursday, May 26, the Graford Independent School trustees met to discuss several items of importance on the agenda for the coming year, including setting the proposed tax rate for 2016-17.
Graford ISD Superintendent Dennis Holt announced the proposed tax rate of $1.12265 for the 2016-17 school year, which was down from last year’s rate of $1.12535. A public meeting date for adopting the 2016-17 budget was agreed upon and it will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30.
Graford ISD Administrative Assistant Deanna Box swore in newly elected member Lonnie Dixon; along with returning trustees, Travis Rogers and Jeff Lemley. Rogers was re-appointed as president; Lemley, as vice-president; and Megan Ragle, as secretary. Other members include Rowdy Glover, Eddie Laney and Branden Waters.
The group heard year-end district reports from Elementary Principal Wes Corzine, High School Principal Lori Henderson and Athletic Director Ty Tabor, who all agreed that 2015-16 had been a successful year. Maintenance Director James Lenamon discussed the need to hire for two positions opening in June for contract custodial work.
Tabor explained a three-year, non-binding contract with Under Armor for obtaining athletic apparel and footwear. As a result, Graford ISD will receive $4,000 the first year; $2,500 the second year; and $2,500 the third year towards purchasing UA items at Athletes World. The Board approved the motion for the three-year contract.
Tabor said GISD will hold athletic summer camps, including strength and conditioning (non-sport specific), free to all Graford athletes. Camps will be held Monday through Thursday 9 to 11 a.m. The first week of basketball camp will begin June 6-9. Other camps will be offered, but dates had not yet been determined.
