Singletary wins rescheduled tournament
The Hell’s Gate Bass Club’s March Tournament was rescheduled due to lightning, and it took place Sunday, May 8, on Possum Kingdom Lake. Under clear skies with windy conditions, after a front moved through leaving anglers to contend with gusts of up to 35 mph, Mike Singletary placed first ; Tony Wallace, second; Don Welch, third; Barry Smith, fourth; and Mark Allen, fifth.
In only his second tournament with the club, Mike Singletary captured first place with 11.03-pounds; Tony Wallace netted second, with 8.70-pounds; while Mineral Well’s Don Welch hooked third place, with 8.37-pounds; Barry Smith, coming back from injured reserve, rehabbed his injured shoulder into fourth place and new member Mark Allen placed fifth, capturing his first Top Five of the year, as well as Big Bass for the tournament, with a 4.56-pound effort.
Welch increased his lead in the Year-to-Date Tournament, while Smith limped into second, leaving Graham’s Butch Farmer alone in third; ahead of Mike Hallford and new comer Jerry Larance. Places 5-10 are stacked with wylie veterans who had better bring their ‘A ‘game if they are to be competitive , as one of them noted, there is still a lot of fishing before a champion is crowned.
The May Tournament will be fished on Possum Kingdom Lake from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, the 15th, with weigh-in at the low water ramp at The Harbor. Guest are welcome to fish, contact Tournament Director Johnny Hicks at 940-452-4452 for details.
