The Graford EMS/Fire Auxiliary will have a booth with fresh baked goods and cookbooks for sale during the PPCLA Rodeo at the Expo Center in Mineral Wells Thursday through Saturday, May 12-14.  All proceeds go to the GEMS and VFD. The 2016 Mineral Wells Rodeo Parade will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in downtown Mineral Wells, with lineup beginning at 4 p.m. at The Old Depot. 5K Run/2K Walk at PK Lake 

The 57th Assault Helicopter Company will host its second annual 5K Run/2K Walk Saturday, May 21, Armed Forces Day, starting and finishing at the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, at 362 N. FM 2353, Possum Kingdom Lake. The 2K Walk is only 1.25 miles and is child-friendly. The top three finishers in each male and female age divisions will receive a medal. Bowfishing State Championship at PK Lake

The Texas Bowfishing Association will host the 2016 Bowfishing State Championship from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. CDT on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, with registration from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20, and Saturday from 1 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at PK Lodge, 505 Fish Haven Road at Possum Kingdom. There will be a mandatory Captain’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The entry fee will be $200 for teams of two or three men, using the Big 20 Stringer Format. The Big Fish side pot is optional - per boat entry. The event is sanctioned by Texas Bowfishing Association and Bowfishing Association of America. All boat types are welcome and can be trailered to any public boat ramp, but not below the Morris Sheppard dam or in the river system. Cash and prizes will be awarded. PK West Two-Day Sale

The Possum Kingdom West  Emergency Services Auxiliary will hold its annual Memorial Day weekend sale 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, next to the fire station, located at the corner of FM 1148 and Green Acres Road. There will be a large selection available, including furnishings, clothes and more. All proceeds help the PK West Fire and Ems Departments. Donations are welcome. PK West Breakfast Fundraiser

The Possum Kingdom West VFD/EMS will host a pancake breakfast 7-11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the PK West Side VFD station, located at the corner of FM 1148 and Green Acres Road. Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be on the menu. Cost will be $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12, with proceeds going to support PK West Emergency Services. PKWC Golf Contest/Fundraiser

The Possum Kingdom Women’s Club will host its Closest to the Pin Golf Contest/Fundraiser at The Cliffs Golf Course at PK Lake. The contest will be held at the Par 3, ninth hole. Frontier Days - Old Settlers Reunion

The Old Jail Museum Complex will be the venue for Frontier Days and Palo Pinto County’s Old Settlers Reunion, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, featuring live music and living history demonstrations - doll making, sewing, quilting, spinning, flint knapping and more. Tour the jail and log cabins and visit the special showing of the Quanah and Cynthia Ann Parker:  A Pictorial Exhibit. Located two block south of the Palo Pinto courthouse. Instruction will feature full-swing golf, chipping and pitching and putting. There will be a Putt-Putt competition. Campers will receive prizes, lunch, drinks and snacks each day. Walk Across Texas

The Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service will host its annual Walk Across Texas  event from through Saturday, May 28. Teams of eight are encouraged to participate. Quanah and Cynthia Ann Parker Exhibit

The Palo Pinto County Old Jail Museum will host the Quanah and Cynthia Ann Parker Exhibit beginning May 5.

The Lakes Trail Program traveling exhibit is furnishing photos depicting the lives of Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker.  The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Schedule tours by calling Ann Reagan at (940) 659-2555.

 

Graford Fire & Ambulance

PTSD Counseling At VFW

PTSD Counseling is provided the first and third Tuesday of each month at the VFW Post 2399, 1400 S.E. Veterans of Foreign Wars St., in Mineral Wells. Call 940-325-1470. Special Education SSA

Children up to 21 years of age with a disability living in Palo Pinto County may be eligible for services through Palo Pinto County Special Education SSA. The organization serves children with disabilities attending home school and private non-profit schools in Gordon, Graford, Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto, Santo and Strawn. Inland Divers

The Inland Divers Association sport diving group works to raise awareness for conservation and water safety at PK Lake. It is offering a chance to win a Yeti cooler, a Jetovator ride, and a $100 gift card to Smart Hardware. The drawing will be held Saturday, June 4, at the Red Bull Cliff Diving competition.
