Making a cleaner Graham: Fall Clean-Up event kicks off Saturday
The city of Graham Fall Clean-Up event is kicking off Saturday at the city convenience station. The event encourages various clean up methods through use of the city convenience station and opportunities available during the kickoff event.
Two clean-up events are hosted each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The spring event is hosted by the Keep Graham Beautiful organization on the downtown square in collaboration with the city of Graham.
Kickoff day for the clean-up event will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Graham Convenience Station, at 1421 Avenue F. The Paper Pig will be at the convenience station on kickoff day from 9 a.m. to noon providing paper shredding with the first two bags or boxes free per household or business and each additional costing $5.
The convenience station will be open extended hours from Saturday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Oct. 2, and allow dumping of general refuse more than the 6-cubic-yard limit for free, but will not accept household garbage or food items. On Sept. 24-25 and Oct. 1-2, the convenience station will open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on Sept. 26-30, the station will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Entry to the station will be monitored with proof of Graham residency via a city water bill and driver license being required. There will be no commercial or contractor disposal allowed.
