Graham Regional Medical Center, as well as Young County Health Authority Dr. Pat Martin, announced two new COVID-19 related deaths in Young County. The deaths occurred over the past week as the county has seen a record surge of active cases.

The first death was announced by GRMC in its Oct. 20 Facebook update. Dr. Martin informed The Graham Leader via text message Wednesday evening that another patient died Wednesday. There are now 12 total deaths in Young County since the pandemic began in March. Both patients had other medical issues aside from COVID-19, according to Dr. Martin.

In Wednesday’s update from GRMC, the hospital said there are 136 active cases in Young County and six patients in the hospital due to COVID-19. That is a 14 patient increase from Tuesday’s update. The hospital reported 22 new cases total Wednesday with 19 in Young County, and one case each in Jack, Palo Pinto, and Stephens counties. Five cases were removed from the active case list in Young County.
