Toys for Tots disc golf tournament returns to Firemen’s Park
The Graham Disc Golf Club will host its sixth annual Toys for Tots Tournament next weekend at Firemen’s Park. The annual tournament serves as a fundraiser for Young County Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
The tournament takes place Saturday, Dec. 4, with a $20 registration fee. Participants are expected to bring a toy, valued at $10, for Toys for Tots or make a $10 donation at the tournament. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the suspended bridge.
“The idea came about when Justin Bruce, one of our club members, was approached by Bernie O’Dell at the time, who was in charge of Toys for Tots Young County,” club member and tournament organizer Ian Woosley said. “He approached Justin and asked if we would like to host an event, you know, he recognized that we had a club, had kind of started a club, and he basically came and asked us if we wanted to run an event. And Justin talked to me, and I was, and I said, ‘Yes yes, please,’ because we (didn’t) have, at that time, we had no tournaments, or any kind of competitive play in Graham. So it was a really good opportunity to not only have the competitive play, but also to support a charitable cause at the same time.”
The tournament will consist of two rounds. The first round will be a singles round, beginning at 9 a.m., followed by an hour-long lunch break. After the lunch break will be a doubles round. Participants are advised to bring a partner for the doubles round. There will also be an ace pot, for $5 and multiple closest to pin contests.
