Graham Police Department and other area emergency personnel responded to a deceased body found near the 300 block of Victory Street in Graham Wednesday .night. The body found was a separate incident from the U.S. Marshal manhunt which took place the same day on Hwy. 16 South, according to Young County Sheriff Travis Babcock.

At approximately 7:58 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, GPD officers responded to the 300 block of Victory Street in reference to a possible body discovered in the creek behind the houses in that area. Upon arrival, officers located a body in the creek bed, as reported. According to GPD Chief Brent Bullock, the body appeared to have been in the creek bed for “several hours, if not days.”

“Due to the naturally occurring events of the deceased and to exposure, identification of the deceased was unable to be determined,” Bullock wrote in a press release. “There was also no identification, or any other items found on the deceased.”

The body was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiners for identification and autopsy, according to Bullock. GPD officers earlier on Wednesday responded to the report of a missing person who had been reported missing since Monday, Aug. 1.

“We are unable to determine whether the two incidents are connected,” Bullock wrote in the release. “Since a next of kin has not been notified on the deceased individual, all names in both investigations are being withheld at this time.”

The investigation for the incident is ongoing. The Graham Leader will update as information is made available.
