Though in a familiar office, Christy Centers steps into a new role as elected Young County Tax Assessor/Collector beginning May 30, with Nancy Thomas retiring after serving the county for almost 40 years.

At the county commissioners meeting Tuesday, May 26, Centers took her oath of office as the new Tax Assessor/Collector for Young County.

Centers was born and raised in Graham, graduating from Graham High School. After studying at a junior college and graduating with an applied science degree, Centers came back to Graham, always working with the public.

“Always worked out in the public, worked at United Supermarkets for many years and then switched over to come to work for the county,” Centers said. “Been here for about 10 years, but worked in the tax assessor/collector’s office for over six years.”

Originally starting the county clerk’s office, Centers has spent the last seven years as the Deputy Clerk in Thomas’ office, where she said she has enjoyed working under Thomas.
