The Week of the Young Child celebration took off on the Graham downtown square on Thursday promoting early childhood learning, young children, their teachers, families and the community.

The event follows an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children an early childhood education association with thousands of members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional affiliates.

“(The Week of the Young Child) is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, which is the world’s largest early childhood education organization with (over) 60,000 members(…),” Graham High School Principal Joe Gordy said on Thursday to children and parents at the event. “The purpose of Week of the Young Child is to focus attention on the needs of the young children and their families and to recognize programs that meet those needs for children of Graham from birth to age 4.”
