The Graham City Council approved the preliminary plan for renovations regarding the American Legion Building, which will serve as the new City Hall, and gave City Manager Brandon Anderson the ability to move forward with the bidding process regarding the renovations on Thursday.

In an October interview with The Graham Leader, Graham Mayor Neal Blanton said the location at the corner of Fourth and Oak Street where City Hall is currently located was built in 1901 and the city first moved in the property in 1968. In the same interview, Anderson said the idea to move was first brought when he took his position two years ago. On Thursday, Anderson said the city was waiting until they could move the civic clubs who use the American Legion Building and accommodate staff before they took any action regarding the move.

On Thursday, Anderson said the estimated cost given by BYSP Architects was around $220,000. A preliminary floor plan created by both Director of Public Works Jason Cottongame and the company was presented to the council on Thursday detailing a possible setup for the building. Anderson and Cottongame said the city would look local first when obtaining bids for the construction.
