City to close portions of West, Third, Second and South St.
Portions of West St., Third St., Second St. and South St. will be permanently closed for safety, financial concerns and in preparations for the park improvement plan for Salt Creek Park after a unanimous vote by the Graham City Council last Thursday.
The closure of the streets with barriers will be in effect after the first of the year according to a press release from City Manager Brandon Anderson. City crews have begun the process to close the streets, however, Anderson said no official date has been set for the closures.
“We are aware this was a popular ‘bypass’ however it is not feasible for taxpayers to maintain streets that no residents live on as the city is receiving no ad valorem tax for maintenance,” Anderson said in the press release. “Further our studies showed that on two particular days one in every four vehicles violated the law by either speeding or running a stop sign. On the next day we put out our speed study trailers and document that 109 of 223 vehicles in a nine hour time frame were speeding.”
