The city closed portions of West St., Third St., Second St. and South St. on Monday related to action taken by the Graham City Council in November.

The city council voted on Nov. 28, 2018 to permanently close the streets for safety, financial concerns and in preparations for the park improvements plan for Salt Creek Park. City Manager Brandon Anderson said in November, the city has its own charter and owns the property in the affected area, so the city was not required to petition to close.

The areas affected include West St., from Fourth St. to First St.; Third Street, from Pecan St. to West St.; Second St., from Pecan St. to West St.; and the two-block section from Short St. to Pecan St. The last street would close one block of West St. and one block South St. according to a public notice made on the City of Graham Facebook page.

“This action was taken for future parkland development, safety and speed concerns and also the fact that the city is not receiving ad valorem taxes on these properties to pay for repairs,” the release stated.
