City Manager Eric Garretty and the Graham City Council are establishing a list of active projects the city is working on to periodically update the city council and community. The initial list of projects was presented to the city council for consideration Thursday, Oct. 27.

The Top 15 Projects and Tasks presented Thursday included items such as the Plug Power water reuse project, Texas Street waterline replacement project, street repavement program and economic development and housing availability. Garretty said during the times he is not managing the operations of the city, he needs to have a list of the most important priorities.

“I’ve been working with (Public Works Director) Randall (Dawson) and his staff. We’re going to try to develop a report for you and the public that lists all the major projects, and sometimes it’s hard to keep everything on there. But, all the major projects, what they are and what their status is, and we hope over the next couple of council meetings to be able to get that together,” Garretty said.

The list also included the Salt Creek park and other park improvement projects, sludge management at the wastewater treatment plant, Tackett Lift Station sewer project, revising and updating city budget documents, establishing a city employee compensation plan for FY24 and beyond, hosting individual meetings with city council members and the city manager, an analysis of tax rate and a concept for water meter replacement.

“We’re probably getting to the point where we’re going to need to look at water meter replacement. What this looks like is, if we go to staff and they say they’re pretty happy with the system and the way that it’s going and they just kind of want to replace out with the same system as they need to, we would replace a certain number of water meters each year and just budget that on the operational side. That’s what that means, the concept for water meter replacement,” Garretty said.

The city manager said he is in discussions with the public works director and street superintendent on the street repaving program and presenting a list of future projects to the council.
